Lars's Muse ★ Yawatta Hosby

Lars set his acoustic guitar on the floor of his hotel room. He studied his beautiful muse who laid on the bed surrounded by wrinkled red satin sheets.

Her green eyes intrigued him, and her pale skin looked perfect in contrast with the dark red. Her magenta glossed lips puckered up like she wanted to say something, but his muse remained quiet.

And quiet was exactly what he needed.

His statuesque muse was supposed to inspire his latest alternative rock song. The concert was in less than an hour, but his creative juices ran empty.

Lars sighed and closed his eyes. Damn it, think.

A wicked smile crept on his face as he picked up the guitar again. "Oh, Sweet Valentine, love is pain, love is torture," he sang to a hectic melody, his fingers strumming the strings violently.

Since he was a celebrity, he got VIP treatment everywhere he went. No matter the overseas country. No matter the U.S. state.

Lars licked his lips when he heard a soft knock on the door. The middle-aged curvy maid entered the room as quiet as a mouse. Maybe she could be my next muse? He needed all the help he could get. Dusting the mirrors, the maid already knew the routine. No matter the area of the room being cleaned, she avoided eye contact with the bed and the beige carpet. Lars had been coming to this particular hotel for years to find inspiration for his music. As long as he tipped the staff well, they would keep his secret. As long as Lars’s albums continued to top the charts and as long as his tours sold out, his manager would keep his secret too.

“Oh, Sweet Valentine, love is unpredictable, love is art.” Covered in blood, Lars kept strumming his guitar, a sweet yet intense melody finally forming. Yep, he'd be ready to produce a new song for his sold-out concert.

The thing that inspired Lars the most about this particular groupie--she was dead. Her lifeless eyes stared up at the ceiling. Slitting her throat hadn’t satisfied him, so he had also carved a pattern of medium-sized hearts all over her naked body. His beautiful crimson artwork.

Maybe he wouldn’t need to torture the maid after all. He stared at the butcher knife by the edge of the bed. Lars needed that reassurance of the knife’s location in case he changed his mind.

New albums didn’t create themselves...
